On the night of 28-29 June 2004, a group of men and women throughout Palermo gave life to a real movement that would fight Cosa Nostra forever.
The following morning, Palermo woke up with thousands of stickers bearing the phrase: ‘an entire people who pay pizzo is a people without dignity’.
After months of preparations in secret, AddioPizzo was born.
“we were furious, CosaNostra had a stranglehold on our city, it was the state within the state, we knew we were challenging the mafia but it could not go on like this”.
For Nzz magazin I told the story of AddioPizzo and of all the entrepreneurs who have now denounced extortion.
